Gertrude Elanor was born in Swansea, Glamorgan (now Swansea), Wales, United Kingdom to John Davies & Catherine Morgan on 2 July 1861.

There have been different birth years listed, but 1861 seems to be the consensus. Here are some sources for the years:

1859 - on her tombstone
1861 - on Death Certificate, Utah Burial Index, 1910 Census

Gertrude was about 9 years old when she came to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah Territory at the time and spent her entire life there.

Gertrude was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 17 years old and was a faithful member her entire life. When she was 24, she married Arthur Hulbert on 18 Nov 1885 at the Logan Temple in Logan, Cache, Utah.

In 1887 when Gertrude was 26, she had the couples first child, however baby Thomas did not survive. They buried their little boy in the Salt Lake City Cemetery where they would also later be buried.

About two years later, Alice was born. The following year, her brother Brigham Henry Davies married. Little did they know that down the road, Brigham's wife Elizabeth 'Libby' Coulam would die and Gertrude and Art would end up raising two of his children.

Meanwhile, the next three children Arthur, Minnie, & Margarite were each born two years apart. However, not long after that, Gertrude's mother, Catherine Morgan-Davies passed away. The couple named their last baby after her in 1899, but the baby only lived six months.

Of the six children born to the couple, five lived to young adulthood and four to mature adulthood. When their youngest, Margarite, was almost 18, they became guardians of a niece and nephew. Gertrude's brother, Brigham Henry Davies had lost his wife, leaving him suddenly in need of help with the large young family.

Thus, Uncle Art & "Aunt Gertie" as they called her, agreed to raise niece Elizabeth I. 'Beth' or 'Betty' Davies-Pujol & nephew George Morgan Davies, I.

George tells about how Aunt Gertie was a Welsh lady of fine manners. She took pride in her home and was an excellent homemaker. (Biography in progress.)
