Mrs. Rose Ellen Goldthorpe, 59, a 2-year member and past president of the Amherst Hospital Board, died yesterday at Lorain Community Hospital after an illness of five days.
She was the wife of David R. Goldthorpe, Judge of Oberlin Municipal Court.
Mrs. Goldthrope helped organize and served on the Red Cross Grey Ladies Association and was a past president of the Amherst Hospital Auxiliary. She had helped organized the first kindergarten in Amherst.
A native of Lorain, Mrs. Goldthorpe moved to Amherst 30 years ago and was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst. the family home is at 620 South Main St., Amherst.
Surviving besides her husband to whom she was married 35 years are two sons, Paul of Wellington and David a student at Ohio Northern University, Ada; two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Janet) Wander of Utica, Mich. and Diane Goldthorpe of Columbus; five grandchildren; a brother, Frank J. Lucas of Amherst and two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ann) Miller of Brownhelm and Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) Hasenpflug of Vermilion.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home, Amherst.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert A. Happel officiating. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Amherst Hospital Auxiliary.
