Marvel M. Shorter was born in Tonkawa, Oklahoma in 1919. She married Clarence A. "Cab" Brewer in 1940. They moved to Washington, D.C. where they raised a family until 1975, when they relocated to Edmond, Oklahoma. While there, Marvel completed her college coursework and received a B.A. degree from Oklahoma Central University. In 2008 she moved to Jackson, Tennessee to be near her oldest son. She was an active and faithful member of the churches of Christ, worshiping with the Southeast congregation in Washington, D.C., the 151st Street congregation in Olathe, Kansas, and the Midway congregation (now Waterloo Road) in Edmond, Oklahoma for many years. She was an accomplished musician, playing and teaching the piano. In later years, she was very interested in the origin of Gospel songs, researching the composer and writer. In her own way, she sought to be a "peace maker" -- Matthew 5:39.

Children:
Ronald Clarence Brewer, 01/27/1945
Shirley Anne Brewer Yancey, 06/17/1947
Wayne Lewis Brewer, 12/28/1949
Kim Allen "Kab" Brewer, 07/09/1960
