The son of Albert R. and Bernadette Dross Memmelaar, he was born on June 1, 1962 in Goshen, NY.
Al was full-spirited and was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor that comforted his family and friends in their toughest of times. He had a special passion for the outdoors and gardening. Al was one of a kind who will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
Al is survived by his loving partner, Scott Hanofee at home; his parents, Bernadette and Albert Memmelaar Sr., of Goshen; two brothers, Brian and his wife Shelly of Campbell Hall, and Ken and his wife Tina of Greenville. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Kaitlin, Alicia, Matthew and Jacob; many aunts, uncles and lots of cousins; Skyler Hanofee and many other special friends including his two devoted friends from Gardiner, Paul and Agatha.
Friends and family may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Goshen Presbyterian Church. The Rev. David Kingsley will officiate.
Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery in Goshen.
