Gary was a graduate of the Washington High School Class of 1953, with continuing education at Franklin College and a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. In addition, he served his country as a Naval Reservist for eight years, and was a Johnson County Sheriff's Departmnt merit board member. He was a 50 year member of Southport F&AM and was of the Protestant faith.
Gary opened his home to many people throughout his life as a mentor and friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary married the former Winnie Noble on March 10, 1957 and she survives him. Other survivors include his son G. Douglas (Kay) McPherson; daughters Sherry (Don) Trowbridge, and Becky McPherson; sister Diane (Mike) Campbell; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with a Masonic Memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday, April 19 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choie.
