Laura Gross was born on Oct. 29, 1932, to Albert and Wilhelmina (Marquardt) Krueger in the Wolf Creek area. She passed away in Sioux Valley Hospital on April 20, 2004, at the age of 71.

Laura was baptized on Dec. 6, 1932, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She attended the St. Paul Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Freeman High School. Upon graduation from high school, Laura began nursing school in Aberdeen. She enjoyed education and helping others.

On Dec. 26, 1951, she married Clarence P. Gross in Freeman. They moved to the Gross family farm, farming it for over 40 years. They were blessed to share life raising their five daughters, enjoying family gatherings and volunteering in their community for 51 years. Laura especially enjoyed her dairy cattle, taking great pride in improving the quality of their dairy herd. Laura loved gardening and worked continuously to keep her yard and garden neat and tidy.

Laura believed in service and lived her belief. Laura was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church until her death. She led Bible studies and taught Sunday school. Laura was also involved with the church council, the choir and the altar guild. She was an active member in her community serving as a volunteer EMT for the Bridgewater Ambulance, driving the senior citizens' bus and helping with a variety of community fund-raisers.

Laura is survived by her five daughters: Terry and husband Walter Pappin and their children, Nicholas and Sarah, Caldwell, Idaho; Peggy and husband Tom Foster and their children, Justina and Paul of Lewiston, Idaho; Debra and husband Larry Ruen, Lemmon, and their children, Justina and Jason Peters, Rapid City, Elizabeth, Fargo, N.D., Justyn, Rapid City, Kyle and Melody, Lemmon, Jason and Shannon, Fargo; Kim and husband Wes Moos and their children, Jordan and Mackenzie, Parkston; and Kalyn and husband Dennis Buse and their children, Kassidy and Kasey, Bridgewater; seven great-grandchildren: Hailley, Brittney, Kierston, Brendon, Brianna, Megan and Garrett; sister Agnes Stern Hofer, Bridgewater; brother Al and wife Evy Krueger, Sioux Falls; brother-in-law Dr. J. R. and wife Colette Jackson, Paris, Texas; sister-in-law Bev Gross, Canistota; and a host of nieces and nephews, who were very dear to her.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; sisters: Margaret Schoon, Joan Jackson and Wanda Krause; and a brother Christian.

The funeral was held Saturday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Bridgewater, with burial at Bridgewater City Cemetery.
