Bernard A. Bruening, 66, of St. Helena, died February 17, 1988, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD.
Funeral services were held in Immaculate Conception Church in St. Helena, concelebrated by the Revs. Frank Partusch, Gary Ostrander, Anthony Wilwerding and Msgr. Cyril Werner. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Helena.
Pall bearers were David Bruening, Daniel Bruening, Dennis Bruening, Steven Bruening, Lester Hegge, Lonnie Hegge, Charles Bender and Dean Sudbeck.
Bruening was born April 16, 1921, in St. Helena, the son of Carl and Matilda (Lammers) Bruening. He married Geraldine Maly on June 11, 1946, in Crofton.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, former member of the Parish Council, chairman of the Cemetery Board and former member of the St. Helena Social Club.
Survivors include his wife: ten children, Daryl of Omaha, Ken of Aurora, CO., Ron of Yankton, SD., Jan (H.B) Ewersmann, of Little Rock, Ark., Carla (Jim)Wintz of Hartington, Tom of Norfolk, Lynn Bruening of Omaha, Joe of St. Helena, Mary Beth (Duane) Miner of Sioux City, IA., and Jim of St. Helena; two brothers, I.C. Bruening of St. Helena and Edmund Bruening of Menominee; three sisters, Hilaria (Jule) Bender of St. Helena, Lucina (Otto) Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Anne Marie (George) Hegge of Crofton; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Floranz and Arthur and one sister, Hildegarde Rainey.
