James C. Moffett, Jr. of Woodcrest, Wilmington, DE passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Christiana Hospital. He was 91 years old.

Mr. Moffett was born in Trenton, NJ, son of the late James C. and Madeline T. (Reish) Moffett. At an early age, the family moved to Morrisville, PA where he graduated from Morrisville High School. The family then moved to Pennsville, NJ. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1943 from which institution he received both his bachelor's and master's degree. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II.

Mr. Moffett entered teaching at the old William Penn High School in 1948 and worked in the district for thirty-five years, serving as teacher, guidance counselor and administrator. He was instrumental in the development of the district's Adult Education Program and was in charge of the summer school program for several years. He retired in 1983. Mr. Moffett served as the director of the Battery Park playground for many years during the 1950s.

Mr. Moffett's hobbies included hunting and fishing, stamp and coin collecting, and gardening. He had an avid interest in the civil war and baseball. He played semi-pro baseball for Pennsville in the Salem County League and coached baseball for William Penn High School, Battery Park playground and St. Matthew's Little League. He was a member of the Delaware Retired School Personnel Association, the Delaware Association of School Administrators, Emeritus Division, the American Legion - Joseph B. Stahl Post 30 and a former member of the New Castle Rotary Club.

Mr. Moffett is survived by his wife 0f nearly 69 years, Mary E. (King) Moffett; his two sons, James C. Moffett, III and his wife, Diane of Chester Springs, PA and Robert T. Moffett of Wilmington, DE; two grandchildren, Lee Erin Preininger and her husband, Jeff and Jason E. Moffett, all of Wilmington, DE; and two great grandchildren, Lillian and Riley.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, April 19 from 5:00 - 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest on Saturday, April 20 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Moffett may be made to St. Matthew's Parish, 1013 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804 or the Salvation Army, 400 N. Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
