Mrs. Amanda Norris Hetrick, widow ofDr. Augustus C. Hetrick, died this morning at her home in Wellsville, age 97 years, 6 months, 1 day. Mrs. Hetrick was a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph and Sally Haywood (sic). The profession of medicine evidently did and doesrun strong in the family, for besides being a daughter and wife of physicians two brothers were doctors and a son, four grandsons, and nine nephews are at present practicing medicine.
Born and raised in this community, Mrs. Hetrick was a life-long resident of this vicinity. When she was twelve years old, her father died. She was a well-educated woman, having attended aprivate Friends school and Irving College, Mechanicsburg.
She was one of the few remaining members of the Friends Meeting House near here. Her father graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, when there were only three members on the faculty. Mrs. Hetrick was a direct descendant of Thomas Haywood (sic), one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Surviving are 3 children: Dr. Bruce Hetrick, near here; MissAnna L. Hetrick; and Mrs. Charles Hoff, this place; 9 grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Friends Meeting House cemetery. Services were conducted [by a Methodist minister] .
The pallbearers were her grandsons: Dr. Bruce Guistwhite, Dr. Homer Hetrick, Samuel H. Hoff, Augustus Hoff, James Hoff, Dr. Joseph Hoff, and J. Bindley Hoff.
