Dick Madison, 89, passed from Earth to Heaven on Monday, April 15, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11 AM. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Born March 3, 1924, Dick Madison was son to Fred and Adrienne Madison. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942. After attending Texas A&M University on a basketball scholarship, he served his country in the US Army until he was injured saving the lives of his fellow soldiers in a hand grenade explosion. He then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he studied business administration. After university, he returned to Amarillo where he co-founded Greiner-Madison Insurance agency. Upon retiring from Greiner-Madison, he became a partner in various commercial property investments in Amarillo.

One of his real estate partners was Bob LaRoche, whom he had known since Bob was a child and he held in high esteem. Together, they realized his dream of owning property in the country when they invested in Blue Hole Springs Ranch.

Dick married Ruth Thomas of Lubbock Texas on December 18, 1954. As a couple, they were active members of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Dick loved the Lord and served Him throughout his life in many ways. He taught Sunday school and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International for many years and always had Bibles for anyone in need. He traveled the globe on various mission trips to spread the word of God. Among the countries he visited were Brazil, Japan, Korea, and Russia. He also formed a group of men to witness each Sunday to the prisoners at Potter county detention center, which he continued for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, 2 children, son Mark Madison and his wife Michele, and daughter Kerry Jo Madison, all of Amarillo. Best friends Bob and Yphon LaRoche, also of Amarillo, 2 grandchildren Rene and wife Marie Gerard and Melyssa Gerard, all of Quebec Canada. 3 great-grandchildren, Benjamen, Juliette and Nora Gerard, also of Quebec; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Angelia Costilla and Pam Nash for the love and care they provided for Dick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Gideons International, P.O. Box 2304, Amarillo, TX 79105.
