He was the son of the late Jimmy Fears and the late Novella Crews Fears and was married to the late Mary Baylous Fears.
He was a member of Winns Creek Baptist Church and a major with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office where he worked for 35 years. He was also a member of the National Sheriff's Association.
Mr. Larry Wayne Fears Sr. is survived by one son, Larry Wayne Fears Jr., of Halifax; one granddaughter, Brianna Fears, of Halifax; one grandson, Jacob Poteat, of Halifax; three brothers, James E. Fears and wife Ann of Halifax, Macon N. Fears and wife Linda of Halifax and Kenneth L. Fears and wife Aleta of Scottsburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Eugene Fears.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Winns Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Kopco officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. in the Winns Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall and other times at his home, 2090 Winns Creek Road, Halifax, VA 24558.
