Helen D. (Shank) Thornton, 97, wife of the late John E. Thornton, entered life abundant, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 SpiriTrust Lutheran.

Mrs. Thornton was born in Hanover, December 7, 1924, daughter of the late Dorie and Mary Shank and raised by the late Emanuel Keller family of Dallastown.

Helen was a member of the York Alliance Church since the 1950's, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, nursery and Vacation Bible School worker, and other children's ministries. Her Caleb Club members were a tremendous support in her last years.

She worked for the late Dr. Haydn Stouch and for Dr. Clyde Strang at Yorktowne Urology, retiring at the age of 82.

Survivors include three children, Ruth Frank (Paul) of York, Paul Thornton of Manchester and Patricia Jones (Rev. Don) of Punxsutawney. She had 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service, 11 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2021 at the York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Rd., York, PA 17403, with a visitation to be held one hour prior, from 10-11 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Tim Shuey and Rev. Don Jones. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Helen's name to CAMA Services, c/o York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Rd., York, PA 17403 or to SpiriTrust Lutheran, Office of Philanthropy, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., York, PA 17404.
