Joseph "Joe Blue" Raposa of 124 Belleview Avenue, Tiverton, RI died Monday after a short illness. He was the husband of Josephine (Mattos) Raposa.
Born in Fairhaven, son of the late Manuel and the late Emelia (Botelho) Raposa, he was a resident of Tiverton for the past 37 years and previously a resident of Fall River.
He was employed as a boiler maker with Local Lodge 29 in Quincy for 25 years before retiring in 1971. He was a member of the National Riflemen's Association of RI; Local Lodge 29; the Tiverton & Little Compton Rod & Gun Club; Portsmouth Forever Young Club and the Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Joseph Raposa, Jr., and William Raposa both of Tiverton; two brothers John Raposa of Tiverton and William Raposa of Fall River; five sisters, Edna Cloy of Bristol, CT, Delinda Silvia of Kentucky, Louise Raposa, Rose Marie DeCosta and Vivian Silvia, all of Fall River and Angelina "Lena" (Raposa) Mederios-Penxicho, 5 grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are with the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main Street, fall River with interment in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton.

Father of the late Joseph Raposa, Jr.. He is survived by a son William Raposa of Fort Pierce, FL & Tiverton, RI. and several grandchildren, Kenneth J. Raposa of Charlestown. MA, Lori Ann (Raposa) Albernaz of Tiverton, RI, Brett W. Raposa of Warwick, RI, Jamie A. Raposa of Bristol, RI & Italy and Andrea M. Raposa of Tiverton, RI. and several great & great great grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Manuel & Maria Emilia (Eleuterio) Raposa.
Also surviving are his step siblings from his fathers third marriage.

This tough old man worked hard, had a hard side, but always cherrised his grandchildren.
My Grandfather got his nickname due to his blue eyes. His hobbies included raising and hunting with English Setters which earned him many trophies and blue ribbons. It was common place for him to have dogs, horses, pigeons, quail, rabbits and other animals under his care.
