Ralph (Whit) Evans, 82, Versailles, died Thursday morning at the Bartholomew County Hospital in Columbus. He was born Aug. 5, 1896, at Cincinnati, the son of John E. and Ida Pegee Evans. He was married to Mable Keith Jan. 8, 1938 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Ronald K. Evans, and James E.l Evans, both of R.R.1, Versailles; one sister, Mrs. Marcella Cayce, Versailles; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. At one time Mr. Evans was a bridge builder and a road contractor. He was operator of the Fill Up Restaurant in Versailles for 15 years. He was superintendent of the Versailles Water Plant 27 years, was a member of the Leore Weare American Post 173 at Versailles, was a 50-year member of the Versailles Lodge F & AM No. 7, and a 50-year member of the Versailles OES, No. 333. He was a member of the Ripley County World War I Veterans, Barracks, 190, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War I. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McNeelan-Smith and Akers Funeral Home at Versailles with burial in the St. Peter's Cemetery at Olean. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
