Rosa Lee "Bunch" Burgess, daughter of the late Davis Moore and Dessie Moore, was born May 28, 1934, in Clarendon County. She entered eternal rest Dec. 28, 2004, at Hopewell Nursing Facility, Sumter.

Rosa Lee "Bunch," as she was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. At an early age, she joined St. Michael Baptist Church in Kingstree, where she attended and raised her children until moving to Largo, Fla., for a number of years.

Upon returning to South Carolina, Rosa Lee rededicated her life to Christ and the church by joining St. Paul Holiness Church in Sumter (under the leadership of Elder Mark Pierson and Pastor Shirley Holliday), where she raised her granddaughter, Selena.

She worked faithfully in the community as a solo gospel singer, where her most requested song was, "It's a Blessing to be in the Church One More Time." Rosa Lee also formed a gospel group and managed her daughters and other young ladies from her community by taking them to churches to sing.

Her final church home was under the leadership of her daughter and son-in-law, Pastors Jerry and Emma Wells, at Praise Tabernacle Evangelistic Ministries in Sumter. She served there as church mother until her health failed. She was lovingly and unselfishly cared for by her daughters, Linda and Carolyn, in Linda's home.

Her memories will always be cherished by her children, Leroy Moore of New Haven, Conn., Linda (Glenn) McKenzie of Sumter, Emma (Jerry) Wells of Denton, Texas, Carolyn (Johnny) Roseman of Sumter, Theodore Burgess of Sumter, Terrance Burgess of New London, Conn., and Larry Burgess of Sumter; two brothers, Maxie McFadden Sr. of Darlington and David Moore Jr. of New Haven, Conn.; one sister, Elizabeth (Jerry) Barno of Easton, Pa.; two granddaughters she raised as her own, Selena (Greg) Wells of Clarksville, Tenn., and Alish Burgess of Sumter; two spiritual sons, Derrick Nelson and Joe Stephens, both of Sumter; three spiritual daughters, Debra McFadden, and nieces, Lillie Barno and Mary Robinson, both of Sumter; a best friend, Ruth Jackson; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Rosa Lee was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Phillips; and two brothers, Douglas Moore and Joshua McFadden.

Services: St. Paul Holiness Church, Susie Rembert Road, with Minister James Drayton officiating, assisted by Evangelist Maurice Wells, Evangelist Rosemary Drayton, Pastor Emma Wells and Pastor Shirley Holiday.

Burial: Bradford Cemetery.
