Denison came to Ohio in 1836 and engaged in several commercial businesses. In 1849, he was elected president of the first Board of Trade in Toledo and in 1877 as secretary of the Toledo Produce Exchange. He married Mary Sophia Hunt of Maumee on July 8, 1843. They had six children and she died on June 14, 1857.
