Violet L. Shirley, age 94, of Newton, died on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Woodville Convalescent Center in Woodville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Newton with burial to follow at the Newton City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was a native of Pequot, Minnesota and had lived in Newton for several years and was a retired nurses aide. Survivors include her daughter, Mona Cook of Newton; her grandchildren, Annie Cook, George W. "Bubba" Cook III, Rebecca Dougharty, Kevin Cook and 7 great grandchildren.
