Mildred Patterson Cannon, 97, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC. Born on January 17, 1916, in the community of Lykesland, SC, she was the fourth child of the late Mildred Long Patterson and Andrew Patterson.

A graduate of Columbia High School in Columbia, SC, she worked in Spartanburg at the South Carolina Employment Agency until her marriage in 1948. A longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, she was an active member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class. She was also a proud member of the Kate Barry Chapter of the DAR.

Mildred will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She took delight in spending time planting flowers in the yard, playing bridge with her friends, shopping for antiques, and playing the piano.

Survivors include one son, Andrew H. Cannon (Karen) of Spartanburg, SC; one granddaughter, Jessie Colleen Cannon of Clemson, SC; two nephews, John C. Ragin and Walker P. Ragin (Anita) of Columbia, SC; one niece, Patricia Edwards of Orlando, FL; and 10 grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Hugh R. Cannon; a brother, Eugene Patterson; and two sisters, Caroline Ragin and Lillian Roy.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in the sanctuary of Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, with the Rev. David E. Nichols and the Rev. Arthur H. Holt officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC 29209.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Trustee Fund, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, 260 Fairwinds Road, Landrum, SC 29356.
