Phyllis was born the daughter of Marjorie Brown Crichton and William Smith Crichton. She graduated from Friends School in Baltimore in 1947. In 1951 Phyllis graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia where she majored in math. She was a member of PI BETA PHI Sorority. She returned to Baltimore and worked at the Gas and Electric Co. as an engineer's aide for two years. In 1953 she married Weir R. Goodwin III, VMI class of 1952. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Weir R. Goodwin III; sons Weir R. Goodwin IV and wife Cynthia, Cameron Crichton Goodwin and wife Carla, Philip Boyd Goodwin and wife Sarah; step-grandson Christopher and wife Shelley; brother William S. Crichton Jr. and wife Anne. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jessica Goodwin, Cody Goodwin, infant Chase Goodwin, Ryan Goodwin, Collin Goodwin and step great grandson Hunter Goodwin. Also, nieces Karen Gooding, Sandra Crichton and nephews William S. Crichton III, Brook Crichton and Scott Crichton. There are also six great nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 12:30 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Wick Stuckey of Chapelwood Methodist Church officiating. Phyllis and Weir were long time members there. Burial will follow immediately. Pallbearers are her sons, Weir IV, Cameron and Philip Goodwin and nephews William III, Brook and Scott Crichton.
