Dana Jennings Campbell, 97, passed away on Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) at Colonial Hills Nursing Center in Maryville.

Mrs. Campbell was a retired school teacher, having taught over 40 years in Hawkins (Strahl, Fischers Creek and High Point) and Blount (Louisville and Friendsville) Counties. Her love of her students and teaching was well known and she always tried to be a peacemaker. She relished seeing her former students and telling stories of her childhood. She got her B.S. from UT and was a member of the Order of the Louisville OES for over 50 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maryville for 10 years. Previously, she was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Louisville for over 50 years.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, George R. (Rod) Campbell.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, William R. and Cullen Campbell of Burke, Va., and Joe J. and Evelyn Campbell of Maryville; 10 grandchildren, Lisa Wilson of Nashville, Nancy Renshaw of Jonesboro, Ark., William Campbell II of Annandale, Va., Jane Jones of Madison, Ala., Julia Campbell-Karnes of Hollywood, Calif., Karen Holloway of Jonesboro, Ark., Mark Campbell of Louisville, Ky., Martha Campbell-Fulford of Boise, Idaho, Amy Campbell of Chicago, Ill., and Matthew Campbell of Oxford, Miss. Mrs. Campbell also had 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Jennings of Surgoinsville; niece, Mary Elizabeth Cooper of Blountville; niece, Laura Kathry Callan of Dardanelle, Ark.; nephew, Ralph Jennings of Signal Mountain, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 today in the Trinity Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Sterling Turner and the Rev. Darris Doyal officiating.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grandview Cemetery.
