RODGERS, Lt. Gordon Lee, Virginia State Police (Ret.), 81, of Midlothian, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a long illness on January 9, 2013. He was born January 26, 1931 in Elkton, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Melvin Rodgers and Helen Monger Rodgers; his son, Richard Lee Rodgers; and his brother, Charles Shelton Rodgers. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he joined the Virginia State Police and served 40 years. He transferred to Richmond in 1986 to create the Division of Internal Affairs. He was a deacon and member of the Friendship Class at Bon Air Baptist Church, devoted to the men's prayer breakfast group and an avid golfer. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sylvia Apsley Rodgers; daughter, Lori Gifford and her husband, Greg; grandsons, Ryan and Spencer; son, Dr. Rob Rodgers and his wife, Karen; granddaughter, Jordan; grandsons, David and Michael; daughter-in-law, SomJit Rodgers; brother-in-law, Herbert Apsley and his wife, Deloris; niece, Elizabeth; nephews, Matthew and Dwayne; and cousin, Glenna House. A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Bon Air Baptist Church with a reception to follow. Inurnment is planned at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia at a later date.
