Pottsville Republican - April 7, 1999 Charles W. "Slim" Knell, 78, of Pine Grove area, died Tuesday at Pottsville Hospital. Born inPottsville, July 6, 1920, he was a son of the late Charles and Mabel L. Rodgers Knell. He was a 1938 graduate of Pottsville HS. He was an Army/Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was owner/operator of Charles "Slim" Knell electrical contractor, Pottsville. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, snd its United Methodist Men, was an associate lay leader, trustee, member of Youth Ministry and church leadership teams. In 1997 he received the Ashby District Lay member Award. He was a member of VFW Post 129 and biddy basketball coach and was active with local Boy Scouts, all of Pottsville. He was a member of Schuylkill Chapter 537, Trout Unlimited and the board of H.T.Rose Enterprises, Newtown. He was preceded indeath by his wife, the former Carrie Sinton. Surviving are two daughters, Carol K. Rose, Newtown, and Donna J. Merkey, Pottsville, four grandchildren. There will be no procession from Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home Pottsville, to First United Methodist Church for services at 11 am Friday. The Revs. Glen Esler and Bonnie Yeager will officiate. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
