Mr. Jessie "Pap" Givens, of the East Fork community in Jackson County, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, April 4, 2013 at the Line Street home of his son in Granville from complications of a stroke. He was 74. Bro. Jeff Burton and Bro. Lee Neal officiated at the 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, April 6th funeral services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Gene Butler Cemetery in Brooks Bend in the Gladdice community. He was one of ten children of the late Andy King and Mary Eugene Holmes Givens and was born Jessie Lee Givens in the Funns Branch community of Jackson County on March 11, 1939.
Seven siblings preceded him in death, Magdalen Adams, Edward Lee "Little Buck" Givens, Bill "Skillet" Givens, Lucy Sircy, Bessie Timmons, Jo Etta Chandler and Essie Lear. Mr. Givens was a retired farmer and carpenter. He attended the former Ensor's Chapel United Methodist.
