Gladys was born in DeSoto MO and married an Elsberry guy in April of 1935. Thomas sharecropped on a farm, worked as a glove cutter, and eventually became a track foreman for the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
Gladys was a machine operator and sample maker for 20 years at Kamp Togs until her retirement in 1978 but she didn't slow down then. Her church, Mary Queen of Peace and Clarksville Garden Club kept her busy while continuing to sew for multiple generations in families.
They were the parents of six children: William Edward, Joseph Richard, Madeline Carol, Rebecca Ann, Janet Louise, and Philip Wayne.
