27th California Governor, San Francisco Mayor. Known as "Sunny Jim", he was a popular and longest elected mayor of San Francisco, California, holding the position from 1912 to 1931. It would be Rolph who would sign the order to evict all cemeteries from San Francisco city limits. In 1931, he was elected the 27th Governor of California and became rather unpopular. The sudden turn in his popularity was caused in part from his support of the lynchings of Thomas Thurmond and John Holmes by San Jose residents for the murder of Brooke Hart. He would ultimately die while in office.
