William Jefferson Mateer was born June 7th, 1849 in Huntington, Pa., and died at his home in Afton Wednesday, April 1, 1914. His first marriage was with Elvira Holt to which was born four children, Charlie of Afton being the only one living, the other three children with the mother having died years ago.
His second marriage was with Ella Conger. To this union was born six children, two girls and four boys, five of which are living, Lillie, Frank, Willard, Millard and Willie. He leaves one sister and two brothers, Mrs. William Lawson and Henry Mateer, of Afton, and John K. Mateer of Oklahoma.
Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Evangelical church conducted by Rev. E.R. Mitchell and interment in Greenlawn cemetery.
