He served with Troop A Cavalry during the Buffalo Switchmen's Strike, August 1892 and Brooklyn Trolley Strike, January 1895. When Troop A became Squadron A Cavalry, in 1895, he was assigned to Troop 1, Squadron A Cavalry. He became the Ordinance Sergeant of the Squadron, March 11, 1895.
He served in Squadron A during the Spanish American era. Discharged from Squadron A , May 4, 1899.
Served in Troop A with his cousins Austin Colgate. and Sidney M. Colgate. Other relatives Robert Bangs and his brother Gilbert Colgate also served in Squadron A.
