Arland J. Matthias, 72, of 1303 Ahrens St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 9:30 am Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 am at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dan Felton will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Alverno.
Mr. Matthias was born March 29, 1913, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late
William and Marie Klasen Matthias. He was a lifelong Manitowoc County resident.
He married Irene M. Brunner, July 10, 1935 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno.
The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1985. Prior to their retirement
they owned and operated a farm in Manitowoc Rapids for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Irene M.; six sons and five daughters-in-law, James A.
and Fay of Manitowoc, Dean J. and Lilly of Maribel, Dennis W. and Marilyn of Omaha, Jon A. and Diane of Manitowoc, Joseph A. and Carol of Manitowoc and Daniel L. of Whitelaw; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. Andrew (Annette) Andropolis of Sturgeon Bay, Mrs. John (Eileen) Kapust of Olympia, Wash., Ms. Marilynne Matthias of Cedarburg, Wis., and Mrs. Kenneth (Patricia) Meier of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Vilas Matthias of Madison and Edward Matthias of the Town of
Liberty; three sisters, Mrs. Armin (Lorraine) Ewald, Mrs. Robert (Eline) Glaeser and Mrs. Robert (Bernett) Lorfeld all of Manitowoc; 38 grandchildren and a great
grandchild.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 4 pm to 9 pm Thursday, where a prayer service will be 8 pm by Deacon Kenneth Nelesen.
