Be it joyfully known that Roslyn Roberts Harris, wife of James, mother of James, Jr., and grandmother of James, III and Michael Robert, glorified the Father while on this earth, finished her labors of love for a kingdom of love, and entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 10, 1998. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy, her brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Robert Lee and Zee Harris . She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. She treasured her many years of a devoted marriage and love of family and friends. Roslyn was born in Tulsa on October 28, 1911, the daughter of Leonard and Theodocia Roberts, prominent real estate developers, including hotels in Miami, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. As a small child, the family moved to Kansas City, and Roslyn attended a good Catholic school until high school age. Then they moved to Hollywood, California, where she attended and was graduated from Cumnock School for Girls in Los Angeles. The family moved to Oklahoma City shortly after opening the Roberts Hotel downtown. Roslyn first met her husband, James, while majoring in languages at OCU. She also attended a business school upon her father's insistence that she get a good business education. Roslyn and James' courtship was cut short after her father's death in 1934 when Roslyn and her mother moved to Kansas City. There, she and her mother were very active in many cultural activities. Roslyn also owned and managed a black Angus farm a short distance from Kansas City. In 1944, while visiting friends in Duncan, she decided to move there. Lo and behold, the good Lord had kept Roslyn and James for each other. Their courtship was renewed by a wonderful relationship and they were married in 1945. Roslyn encouraged exam and was employed by a Chicago CPA firm, Bauman, Finney and Company. Roslyn , James, Jr. and James moved to Oklahoma City in 1950, purchasing the other interests in the Roberts Hotel. They owned and managed the hotel until 1968 when it was acquired by the Urban Renewal Authority. They were a great team. James managing, etc., and Roslyn using her talents in redecorating the rooms with new paint, carpets, drapes, etc. Roslyn was an active and devoted member of the Episcopal Church. For many years, she was a member of All Souls' where she belonged to the Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women, serving in both as Treasurer. In recent years, she belonged to St. Paul's Cathedral. Her devotional and prayer life have been an inspiration to all that knew her. Roslyn loved to travel and did so extensively - twice around the world, many times to Europe, cruises in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Caribbean seas. She loved music, art and architecture and shared her good knowledge and experiences in these areas with her amazed everyone. She had another stroke on May 31 from which she could not recover. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Margaret Back, Dean George Back and the other clergy of St. Paul's Cathedral, Father Robert Shaw, and Father Barney Jackson for their loving care and spiritual guidance. The family also expresses their thanks to Dr. Ronald White and Dr. Earnest Warner for their loving medical care. They also thank Full Life Hospice for their kindness and assistance in these past weeks. To rejoice because we are Christians, to thank God for her life and to celebrate the power of Christ's Resurrection because we are Easter people in life and death. Internment will be at All Souls' Episcopal Church at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Cathedral.
