Evelyn Rock, 93, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away
Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Burgess Health Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at Rush
Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Mary Wells, officiating. Burial
will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, October 30, 2010
5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Rush Family Care Service.
Evelyn was born October 8, 1917 in rural Whiting, Iowa, the daughter of
Ernest and Ruth (Beigel) DeLashmutt. She graduated from Onawa High
School in the class of 1935 and then worked at the Agriculture
Stabilization Conservation office in Onawa.
Evelyn and Vernon W. Rock were united in marriage June 29, 1938 at Logan,
Iowa. They farmed in the Onawa and Blencoe area where they raised their
three children.
Evelyn was a longtime member of the Blencoe United Church of Christ. She
was very active in the Blencoe community and belonged to the Study Club
and was also a volunteer at Burgess Hospital.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Vernon of Whiting; two
daughters and their husbands, Carol and Rick Larson of Oklahoma City, OK
and Linda and Lee Schumacher of Madison, CT; a son, Jim Rock and his wife
Ingrid Croce-Rock of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Darren Wade
(Karen) Larson, Angela (Wyatt) Poindexter and A. J. (Marlo) Croce, six
great grandchildren, Luke and Olivia Larson, Cameron and Katie
Poindexter, Camille Gordon-Kling and Eli Croce; a sister, Lavonne
Anderson of Seattle, WA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eleanor Hubbard and a
brother, Charles DeLashmutt.
