Albert Rienhold Zass, 82 of Mattawan, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lawton.

Albert was born August 15, 1930 in Coloma, the son of Adolph and Pauline (Oxner) Zass, both of whom precede him in passing. Also preceding him in passing were a brother: Henry Zass.

Albert served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with White Pigeon Paper Company, Watervliet Paper Company and Auto Specialties, where he later retired.

Albert is survived by his sister: Eleanor Rhodes, a nephew: Michael Rhodes (Julie Ison-Rhodes) and granddaughters: Taylor and Mia Rhodes, all of Mattawan.

The family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 P.M.; Wednesday, December 26 at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. The service to honor his memory will commence at 1 P.M.; Thursday, December 27 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark D. Gieschen of the Saint James Evangelical Lutheran Church of Portage officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, where military rites will be performed by Hess-Eastman Post 174.
