Wayne Harvey Crawford Sr. was born May 12, 1924 to Gordon R. and Sophia Rose (Fischer) Crawford in Roca, Nebraska and departed this life on February 4, 2013 in Buffalo, Missouri. He was at the time of his passing 88 years, 8 months and 22 days of age.

Having gone through the Depression he was able to go through the 8th Grade before he had to go to work to help make enough for his family. He was the oldest of five children, who included brothers Leo, Gordon, Darrell, and sister Doris. During the Dust Bowl his dad got Dust Pneumonia so they had to move south. They spent a few years around Winona, MO before coming to Long Lane where they would make their home on FF Highway. Wayne was a member of Liberty Methodist Church in his younger years. It was there that he got saved and he was baptized in the Doosenberry Creek right below the church. Wayne drove a school bus and worked at the CCC camps to make his money. Then he went to work for Morgan's Rock Co. as a truck driver which he did until the Army called for him to go to World War II. In the Army he was put with an elite group known as the Mars Task Force. They built the Burma Road with mules from Missouri, which he was always proud to tell others about.

In his later years he talked often about the hardships of that mission, but he never regretted what he had done for his country. After returning from the war he moved to Kansas City, where he went to work for Yellow Freight. Truck driving was in his blood. He drove for them until retiring and coming to his first love, Long Lane, MO where he and his loyal wife Lois built their home right next door to his home place on FF highway. He worked for Dallas County Road and Bridge for many years until he finally retired and became the Long Lane helper. He loved Dallas County, especially the Long Lane community, and wanted to be everyone's friend. He worked to be a neighbor to almost everyone, never asking for money. He just wanted everyone to love the area as much as he did. He spent many hours at the Long Lane Store with the Caselman kids, teasing them and whoever else would come in. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Long Lane Fire Department and he was on the Dallas County Sheriff's Posse. He also volunteered at the Long Lane Park, doing whatever needed to be done.

His last few years were spent next to his boys in Buffalo. He lived with Dan and Glenda and right next door to John and Sandy, where he was given tender care until his death. He loved his family and enjoyed talking to them and having a meal with them.

He was a regular at the Senior Center, Simms, Sharpe Motors, and many other businesses around town, where he would look for anyone that might know him. He loved the people of Dallas County and cared what happened in their lives. So "Thank-Yous" go to God and Dallas County for making such a good life for Wayne Crawford.
