Janice Matthews, age 70, passed away at home on Friday, April 12, 2013 in Jackson, Tennessee.

Janice was born on December 20, 1942 in Jackson, Tennessee to Ollie Pearl Hicks and the late William Earl Hicks. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Michael Hicks and her son, Martin Matthews.

Janice graduated from Southside High School, attended Jackson State Community College and graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked for thirty five plus years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, including serving as Director of Timber Springs at Western Mental Health.

She leaves her Mother, Ollie Pearl Hicks of Jackson, TN; children, Melanie Matthews-Briley and husband, Johnny of Jackson, TN, Craig Matthews of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Alicia Gammons, Matthew Sloan, Cassidy Matthews, Christine Matthews, and Emily Matthews; and great-grandchildren, Rowdy Gammons and Waylon Gage.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel with Bro. Danny Rachael and Bro Gary Diggs officiating. Interment will follow in Parkburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers to serve will be Matthew Sloan, Chris Hicks, Andy Matthews, Timothy Gage, Billy Bowes, and Bill Nix.

Visitation with the family will be held at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m.
