Gene L. (Bud) Peelle, 24 year old Air Force Veteran and associate editor of the Cambridge City National Road Traveler, was killed instantly early Saturday morning in an automobile accident at East Germantown (Pershing).

Bud, the son of Omar S. Peelle, publisher of the Cambridge City National Road Traveler was alone at the time of the accident. The crash occurred about 1 a.m. as the young newspaperman was going to Cambridge City from Richmond. The accident occurred as Bud turned to sharply to avoid hitting a car and the driving mechanism did not withstand the sudden turn and he crashed the car.

Well known in Wayne and nearby counties, Bud conducted a column in the Cambridge City paper. He resided at 1226 East Main Street, in Richmond, Indiana.

Bud was born in Lewisville, lived in Straughn for many years before attending high school in Cambridge City.

He served in World War II for four years and was assigned for two years with the Fifteenth Air Force based in Italy. He had flown numerous combat missions. T. Sgt. Air Corps.

Survivors are His wife, Ruth Palmer; father and step mother Omar and Vera Peelle; half brother Douglas Smith of Indianapolis and a half sister Mrs. W. H. Wherry Jr. of Cleveland, and step brother James Jimmy Hanning.
