Lee R. Brobst, 95, of 2439 Pleasant Grove Road for the past 10 years, passed peacefully in his sleep at 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at his home.
He was born April 23, 1919, in Zion Grove, a son of the late Charles and Annie (Mensinger) Brobst. On Jan. 17, 1942, he married the former Juliet A. Fisher, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2003.
Lee was of the Protestant faith.
He farmed on his family farm in Columbia County for six years. Lee worked for the County Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service. He joined the Farm Credit Systems in 1947, and was employed as an office manager at the Lewisburg; Romney, West Virginia; and Lancaster locations. In 1959, Lee was named Assistant Vice President of the Baltimore Federal Intermediate Credit Bank. He was the Resident Examiner for the 1st and 2nd Farm Credit Districts in 1964, and for the 7th District in 1966. In 1967, Lee was named Assistant Director of Farm Credit Administration Short Term Credit Service in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1981 as Chief of Staff to the Senior Deputy Governor of the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C.
Lee was a member of the Mifflinburg School Board in the 1990s. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Mason Lodge 370, Mifflinburg.
He was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, and will be remembered by many for his frequent letters to the editor. Lee was a kind and appreciative man.
Funeral services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
