Charles Fredrick Highberg, devoted Husband, Father, Brother and a Great American passed away in Spring, Texas after a two month illness on August 24, 2010 with his loving family by his side.

Charles was born August 20, 1938 in Palacios, Texas to James L. Highberg and Violet Lorene Bornaman.

Charles was the ultimate American proudly serving this country he loved so much in the U.S. Army from 1957 to his retirement in 1983. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. The highlight of his career was to serve 13 years in the White House under four Presidents: Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan. At his retirement, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). After retirement, Charles served as Administrative Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Houston Industries, Inc.

Charles is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 49 years; Daughters: Robin and Tracey; Brothers: James M. Highberg (Dianna) and James L. Highberg Jr.; Sisters: Linda Hamilton; Tiny White and Rita Polensky (Ray) and Step Sister Gay Dumm. Brothers and Sisters In Law: Vaughn Lambden (Pam); Lynn Lambden (Mary Pat) and his beloved Dog and companion "Mei Tu".

He was preceded in death by: his Father James Highberg and Mother Violet Bornaman Highberg: Step Mothers Christine Cross and Virginia Gillespie; Sisters Nora Jean Cady and Patricia Ann Porter.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Services will be held at 11 a.m. at Addison Funeral Home in Spring, Texas. The address is 18630 Kuykendahl Road, Spring, Texas 77379, phone (281) 350-0998, www.addisonfuneralhome.com. Charles will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston with military honors.

Pallbearers will include Charles' Nephews: Stephen, Michael, Jeremy and Justin Lambden; Woody and William Ray Cady; and Donnie and Bruce White.

The family would like to thank their supportive neighbors who helped so much with their prayers and kindnesses shown during this trying time. They would also like to express their gratitude to the Physicians and Staff at Triumph Northwest Hospital; the Methodist Hospital at Willowbrook and Northwest Medical Center for their care of Charles.
