TERRE HAUTE — Franklin L. Higgins, 69, of Terre Haute died at the VA Hospital in Danville, Ill., on Dec. 21, 2010. He was born Jan. 5, 1941, in Clark County, Ill., to Lester and Lola (Lee) Higgins, and they have preceded him in death. He also was preceded by his first wife, Cheryl (Smith) Higgins, in 1974; and one brother, Joe. He was retired from Alcan Aluminum Products, now known as Novelis Corporation. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran, having served from 1961 to 1967. He attended God's House Apostolic Assembly.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Miller) Higgins; a daughter, Tracy Simpson and her husband Bradley; two sons, Frank L. Higgins Jr., and Daniel J. Higgins; two stepdaughters, Melinda Short and Connie Schmuck and her husband Robert; and one stepson, Keith Peters; his brothers, James L. Higgins, Darrell Higgins, and Terry R. Higgins; one sister, Louellen Simmons; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled in DeBaun Springhill Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, with the Rev. Jimmie Simmons officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery, with graveside military services conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Calling hours are 10 a.m. until services Monday.
