FORT WORTH - Verna Mae Atkins, age 90, formerly of Loraine, passed away January24,2012. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with Rev. Homer Reddic officiating. Interment followed in Loraine Cemetery.

Mrs. Atkins was born October 9,1921, in Cameron. She lived in Loraine for many years and was a member of the Canaan Baptist Church there. She worked as a cook at Johnsons Hospital in Loraine and was a nurses aide at Loraine Nursing Home. She had lived in Loraine since the early 1950s, moving to Fort Worth five years ago.

She is survived by two sons, Joel Atkins of Loraine and Oscar Amos and wife, Sandra of Fort Worth; two daughters, Ruthie Griffin and Shirley Atkins, both of Fort Worth; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Price; two brothers; and five sisters.

Pallbearers were Billy McPeters, Hann Ollison, Tony Williams, Leonard Williams, Jossell Williams and Tommy Williams.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
