Clarence "Jack" Combs Apr 4th 2013 Print Obituary OBITUARY: Clarence "Jack" M. Combs, age 87, of Bloomingdale, passed away on April 4, 2013. Jack was born in Frenchburg, KY in 1925. Jack arrived in Bloomingdale in 1938 and worked in the Bloomingdale oil fields until he enlisted in WWII in 1942. He served in the Navy as a Machinest Mate from 1942-43. In 1944, Jack began a two-year three-month duty aboard the USS Hollis until his discharge in 1946. After he left the service, he married Mary Ellen Clark in 1947. Jack owned and operated a gas station in Bloomingdale until he was suddenly called back into service during the Korean War in 1951. Selling his business and leaving his wife with one child and expecting another was extremely difficult, but Jack dutifully answered his country's call. After 18 months aboard the USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier, he finally returned to be husband and father again. Jack entered Barber School and served many years in Bangor, Bloomingdale and South Haven. Through the Barber Shop and contacts made there, Jack decided to venture into real estate. He established Blue Star Realty Company and served as broker for nearly 30 years. Jack was very involved in the Bloomingdale Community especially the Boy Scouts serving as Scoutmaster for many years and was also a school board member. He was an avid hunter and fisherman teaching his children to love the outdoors. He loved his gardens bringing flowers and vegetables to many people. Jack was known throughout the area for his honesty and integrity. Jack is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, At his request, cremation has taken place.
