Mr. Nelms was born in Fayetteville, Georgia on September 12, 1938. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Nelms and Mary Elizabeth Shivers Nelms. Mr. Nelms was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War and retired from Dry Tex.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Nelms, daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Vernon Downey of Griffin; grandchildren, Madison Mathias and Geoffry Mathias of Franklin, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Hugh (Bo) and Annie Bell Nelms of Griffin, James (Bubba) Nelms of Brooks; sisters and brother-in-law, Ida Lee Webb of Whitesburg, Betty Jane and Harold McDowell of Griffin; sister-in-law, Rosie Harris of Griffin; several nieces and nephews; former son-in-law, Todd Mathias of Franklin, GA.
Visitation for Mr. John Paul Nelms will be on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Jeffrey Shelton will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens.
