In 1854 there was a cholera outbreak in July & lasted into Sept. It took a huge toll on the Little York area, sometimes killing whole families. James & Matilda died on the same day, their daughter Harriet E. died on 26 Aug. The fate of their sons is unknown. James' father James Sr. also died on Aug 15. James' brother, Robert H. also died on the 28th of Aug.
