BIZZELL, MARY JOYCE REIS "JOYCE," 72, of Louisville, went to heaven surrounded by her family on April 10, 2013.
She was a devout Catholic and proud graduate of Loretto Academy, and was involved in her parish, St. Gabriel, including the Altar Society and Committee of Concern. She was fiercely proud of her children's accomplishments, which were the result of her and Mike's strong belief in Catholic education and active support in all their endeavors, such as being a Cub Scout den mother, St. X Band Parent, and Mercy Academy Booster. She was fondly known as "Gee-Gee" to the many children she babysat over the years, whom she loved. She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Vivian Reis.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, J. Michael "Mike" Bizzell; and her loving children, Mark F. Bizzell (Ngoc Do-Bizzell, O.D.), Steven J. Bizzell, DMD (Tim Thom), Mary E. "Beth" Bizzell (Julie Houk), and Casey (her loving and loyal K-9 companion). She is also survived by her loving stepmother, Anna Margaret Reis; brothers, Larry Reis (Kathy) and Jerry Reis (Rita); and sister, Kim Reis Holmes (Bruce); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, devoted friends, and her J-town bingo family.
Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Road with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the scholarship funds at St. Xavier High School, 1609 Poplar Level Road, Louisville, KY 40217 (saintx.com); or Mercy Academy, 5801 Fegenbush Lane, Louisville, KY, 40228 (mercyacademy.com).
