After he did a duty in the Army, he returned to Lunenburg County where he met and married the late Julia Gwendolyn Edmonds. They were blessed with four children: Linda, James (known by many as Peter), Carolyn and June. He was a member of Saint Matthew's Baptist Church- Kenbridge, VA- where he served on the Usher Board.
He held many jobs laboring to care for his family. He provided taxi service for dialysis patients, worked for the tobacco company in Kenbridge, and the former Kenlea Furniture Company. "Daddy, we appreciate you for your support."
Simon is survived by: daughters Linda Bey, her husband Vance and granddaughter Empress of Roanoke, VA; Carolyn Gerbino, her husband Albert and granddaughter Alexis of Midland, NC; and June Johnson, her husband Stanley and grandson Christopher of Kenbridge; a son James, his wife Rochelle and grandsons Jamel and Rashaun of Kenbridge, VA; three great grandchildren: Joshua, Jamal, and Desiree; brothers, Eldridge and Jack Johnson; a sister, Barbara Ann Crawley; sisters-in-law: Colean Johnson, Ethel Johnson, Evelyn Wilson, Mattie Jackson, Martha Thomas, Hilda Edmonds, and Vernita Edmonds; brothers-in-law: Reeves Crawley, John Edmonds, Roosevelt Wilson, Rueben Edmonds and Larry Thomas; one uncle, Richard Johnson; one aunt, Lillian Ragsdale; and many many nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
