Dallas Rupe Obituary

RUPE, DALLAS GORDON III, age 67, passed away September 22, 2002, in Boise, Idaho. He was born December 10, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Dallas Gordon, Jr. and Ruby Landers Rupe. Buddy attended Texas Country Day School, The Hill School, graduating from St. Marks School of Texas, attended Southern Methodist University and Investment Bankers School, and Northwestern University after which he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Buddy's father and grandfather founded the first Texas Chartered Investment Banking business: Dallas Rupe and Son, Inc. Buddy was Director and Vice President of branch operations from 1953 to 1970, when the retail brokerage division was sold to Eppler, Guerin and Turner. He continued to serve as Director and Vice President of the Rupe investment Corporation as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rupe Foundation, until his death. Buddy served as an allied member of the New York Stock Exchange from 1957 to 1989 and an associate member of the American Stock Exchange. In 1986, Buddy semi-retired to Taos, New Mexico, where he owned and operated The Market, a consignment gallery, till it was sold in 1989. In 1990 he moved his family to Ontario, Oregon, where he founded The Rupe Companies. Inc. providing real estate property management and related services. In 1998 Mr. Rupe sold his property management business and continued to serve as President of the Rupe Companies until his death. He served as a member of the Dallas Securities Dealers Association, Houston Securities Dealers Association, National Association of Security Dealers. He was a member of the National Security Dealers Board of Arbitrators and the American Arbitration Association. He also was a Vice President and Director of the American Water Skiing Association. Buddy was a champion water skier, a devoted family man and was well known for his sense of humor and loving personality He is survived by his wife of 19 years. Ann Walker Caldwell Rupe, daughters Robin Caldwell Rupe and Amy Muriel Rupe, sons Sean T. Rupe and wife Shawna, Dallas Gordon Rupe IV, as well as step sons, Larry M. Horyna, wife Beth and Garrett Fichtner, sister Paula Rupe Dennard, nephew David B. Dennard, and nieces Gretchen D. Chrane and Caroline D. Harris. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2002, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas.
