Herbert Leroy Walters was born Nov. 17, 1946, in Sumter County, to the late Elijah "P.W." and Annie Ruth Allen Walters. He departed this earthly life and entered into eternal life on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He was formerly employed by the Sumter Casket Co.

Being reared in a Christian environment, he realized the need for a personal savior and joined Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Fond and precious memories will be cherished by his children, Shanita (Terrance) Rochelle Walters Jackson and Kelton (Debra) Lorelle Walters, both of Columbia, Xavier (Jeryl) Durad Bennett of Sumter and Joanne Tumoney of Philadelphia, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Edna Coleman of Sumter, Carolyn (William) Montgomery of Conley, Ga., and Edith Maybell and Janie Lee Davis, both of Sumter; four nieces; one nephew; 11 aunts; and three uncles.

Funeral services: Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Leon Winn, officiating and assisted by the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, the Rev. M.G. Walters, the Rev. Darryl McGhaney, the Rev. James Stukes, the Rev. Sandra Simmons, the Rev. Michael Walters, the Rev. Ramsey McFadden, the Rev. Nate Brock, the Rev. O.J. Hannah, the Rev. Irene Anthony and the Rev. Ricky Simmons.
