Lewis A. Kanirie, 75, of 3652 Norman Road, a resident of Port Huron area for 60 years, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
He was born March 30, 1888, in Carsonville.
He married Ida Haacke, Lexington, Dec. 12, 1961.
Mr. Kamirie was a former marine engineer and sailed on the Great Lakes for 30 years. He was a member of Local No. 15, IAM, and First Baptist Church. He retired after being employed as a machinist at Electric Autolite Company.
He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip J. Neaton, Port Huron; two sons, Edwin W. Kanirie, Clawson, and Lewis A. Kanirie, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, John Frazier, Croswell; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stevens, Durand, Mich., and Mrs. Jennie Grant, Port Huron; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ella Ormsby, Detroit; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Arthur Smith Funeral Home. Dr. John W. Hubley, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
Anton Dinger, Donald Gavin, Melvin Loeding, Andrew Docherty, John Gardner and Raymond Carrier will be pallbearers.
Memorial contributions for Mr. Kanirie may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Lewis was born, Lewis Alexander Frazer with his twin, Gertrude Frazer. The Kanirie's Fostered/adopted the two after his mother died from child birth.
