Stillwater, Okla. -- Lonnie Boeckman, a member of the Cowboy Basketball team in the mid-1970s, died Wednesday afternoon due to complications after surgery at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 58.
Boeckman, a native of Okeene, Okla., made the 70-mile trek due east down Highway 51 to Oklahoma State after being named All-State and an honorable mention All-American in high school for coach Keith Young. He was a member of the Cowboy Basketball team from 1973-77 under coach Guy Strong.
Boeckman, listed at 7-feet, 4-inches tall during his playing days at OSU, saw action 41 games in his career, starting three during his senior season. He scored 10 points on three occasions during his career, at Texas Tech as a junior and at Missouri and at Oklahoma City as a senior. He blocked four shots at Colorado his senior season.
ENID, Okla. — Rosary service for Lonnie Boeckman, 58, of Okeene, will at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Okeene. Mass of Christian burial is at the church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary, Okeene.
Lonnie was born Jan. 19, 1955, in Okeene, Okla., to Lawrence and Louise Weber Boeckman and died Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are brothers, Larry and Lenny Boeckman, both of Okeene; sister, Lana Stocus of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
