Mrs. Grant died Monday, June 7, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a brief and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Aug. 14, 1927 north of Coyle to George and Zollie (Stapleton) Gibson. She married Charles Grant in Guthrie on April 30, 1947 and he predeceased her on May 17, 1980.
After her marriage, the couple made their home southwest of Perkins. She moved to Perkins after the death of her husband.
She was very involved in the community and well known for her tremendous cooking ability. For many years she was employed as a cook by the Perkins Lions Club and the Perkins Y Livestock Auction. In recent years she sold Avon products. Her hobbies included dancing and gardening and she raised chickens. She was a charter member of the Cimarron Valley Extension Homemakers Club and the Perkins Roundup Club. She was a 50-year member of FCE.
She served for five years on the Perkins City Council. At the time of her death, she was president of the Olivet Cemetery Association, president of the Perkins Senior Citizens Center and a member of Perkins VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Perkins, where she was a member of the Women's Council.
Elsie was a devoted and loving mother to her children. She was a caring grandmother to her six grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her other family members and numerous friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Patricia Grant and infant grandson David Grant.
