Death David Rowell 8/3/1858 in Lauderdale Co., TN at residence of son-in-law John P. Rice of Marion Dist. in 78 yr of his age.

Shadrach Rice Diary lists that on 8/3/1858 David Rowell died at JP Rice's home.

"The Rowell family and its connections are large, respectable and influential and has been prominent ever since Marion became a district or county.

The first of the name, as well as can be ascertained, was Jacob Rowell, the grandfather of the present old gentleman, Valentine Rowell, over 80 years of age, near Centenary and Tyrrel's Bay Churches.

Jacob Rowell married twice, his first wife's name unknown. His second wife was a Miss Palmer or Polson. They had 2 sons, William and David. William went west. David, the father of the old man Valentine Rowell, married Rebecca Phillips and raised 6 girls and 4 boys. The boys were Jacob, William L., David and Valentine. the girls were Stacy Ann, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Sarah, Agnes and Rebecca."
