HAWKINS, LEON SAMUEL, 89 Ocala - Mr. Leon Samuel Hawkins, 89, died September 3, 2006 in the Danto Rehabilitation Center in West Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was the husband of Alice Rose (Richardson) for 66 years. Born in Birmingham, AL he was a son of the late Samuel D. and Velma (Woods) Hawkins. He moved to Marion Oaks in 1985 from Washington, DC. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Marion Oaks, Ocala. He was an avid golfer and President of the Marion Oaks Homeowners Association, member of the Board of Trustees of SECO and the Board of Education for Marion Oaks' schools. Prior to his retirement he was the Director of the American Postal Workers Union's Automotive Division. He was a Veteran of the Navy serving during WWII. He attended Miles College and Tuskegee College. Along with his wife of 66 years, Alice, he is survived by daughters: Barbara Ann Dodson of Anchorage, Alaska and Beverly Ann King of Detroit, MI. He is also survived by sisters: Dorothy Hatten and Barbara Jackson both of Birmingham, AL and brother Herbert Hawkins of Grand Blanc, MI. He is the grandfather of 5 and has 10 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral Monday, September 11, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Bethel Baptist Church, Marion Oaks, Ocala followed by interment in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 5740 S. Pine Avenue, Ocala, FL 34480. Friends may call Monday at the church from 11:00 to 12:00..
